Hi, sorry if i missed a thread about this, but ive been searching for hours lol.

i heard that rangers were able to run a build similar to the old obsidian tank for warrior, and ive been trying to find the build, ive checked pvxwiki for all ranger builds and it doesnt seem to be there.

i was wondering if anyone knew if this still works, and if so what skills are used, (i know the obvious ones

)

if anyone can post a link, or guidelines on the build and equipment that would be hugely appreciated.

Obsidan Flesh, Stone Striker, Armor of Earth, Stoneflesh Aura, Storm Chaser and +10 AL vs Earth damae insignias? It really doesn't work as well as you'd hope, w/o a bonder in most places on HM you'll still be taking a little damage.

thanks for the replies guys, ill give it a go, just irritating as many pugs for high end areas dont want rangers, but i know they are in need of a tank.
i heard that rangers could do obsidian, so wondered if it was as good as the warrior one, but i suppose with less base armour its probably not.

Less base armor? See stone striker's description, earthbound insignia, Ranger base armor vs. elemental, Warding weapon, and a +10 Earth shield(Nightfall Strength shield has these mods). As long as you have Stone Striker, you have:

70 + 30(elemental) + 8(max shield without meeting req.) + 10 vs Earth(shield inscription) + 7 warding weapon + 15 Earth(Earthbound insignia) = 140 armor possible, or 25% damage before skill bonuses.

Of course you probably want enchanting on the weapon, so subtract the warding bonus unless you are comfortable swapping.

/agree with MisterB, rangers have a higher base AL with stone striker, the only thing that warrior obsidian tanks have are the warrior tanking skills. (you know they were once the primary tanks in the game before this crazy idea of a perma sin came out...now my warrior sits in the GH as a mule)

good point, completely ignored all the armour gain from stone striker and ele dmg on a ranger, wasnt thinking lol.
ill give it a test when i get back onto the game tomorrow, see how it fares, just thought of using it with guildies in some elite areas, as my guildies dont have any tanking ability lol.

Glyph of Swiftness + Obsidian FLesh + 20% Enchant mod = Perma Obsidian Flesh, If I recall properly.

Although Glyph of Elemental Power is more beinificial to the other skills on the Bar.

Though I would, it some places, take Melandrus Resilliance over Obsidian Flesh. Let them Hex the crap out of you. (i.e. Keg Farming with a Ranger)

The problem is energy, you need to Storm Chaser to maintain Energy, especially if you go Weapon/Shield combo, but if you could run a blocking stance you'd be further ahead, damage wise. Maybe use that PvE Asuran Blocking skill in there somewhere.

[Glyph of Swiftness][Obidian Flesh][Glyph of Ele Power][Stone Flesh Aura][Stone Striker][Strom Chaser][Sliver Armor][Mental Block]

Should be able to tank all day like that. If you don't care about dealing Damage, drop Sliver for [Grasping Earth] or [Elemental Lord]

Earth 12

If you go Melandrus Resilliance instead of Obs Flesh then drop Glyph of Swift for [Armor of Earth]. Storm Chaser becomes less inportant in this version, but I still say carry it for a quick energy boost if needed in a situation with few hexes/conditions.
